So towards the end of last year, I headed home to Sydney to photograph the first of two weddings – one month apart. It was getting close to the end of the wedding season here in Bilbao so as things start to slow down, they are picking right up again when I dived into the southern hemisphere. Being that my wife was heavily pregnant at the time, I decided not to stay for the month but instead I chose to do two return trips of +30 hours each way… and cross my fingers that she was able to hold on. The good news is that she did and as I’m writing this blog post, she’s (the baby) is happily screaming away in the background. I think everything just feels a little exhausting actually ;-)
Von and Paul are two friends of ours and of course, I jumped at the chance of shooting their wedding when they asked. Every trip home is a bonus and mixing these trips with a little work and play is the perfect combination. The wedding itself was informal and by far, they had one of the quickest ceremonies to date (I didn’t even get a change to put my backpack down and change lenses) but that never takes anything away from the day. They laughed right throughout and it was a pleasure to be a part of. Von had clearly put in a lot of effort in creating the ambience that she was after, and when it came to the food it was a mix of the east meets west.
